STILL SEALED IN ORIGINAL SHIPPER!
Every day, modern railroads transport vast quantities of coal dug from open-pit mines to coal-fired electric power plants throughout North America. The black diamond loads are typically hauled in special aluminum coal cars that can be quickly unloaded at the utility plants. With over 10,000 cars in service, used to transport coal Bethgon-type gondolas are one of the most common cars today. Equipped with rotary couplers, these gondolas are emptied with the help of a coal car dumper, which rotates a rotary coupler car upside down while still coupled to a unit train. Their all-aluminum construction and unique bathtub-style design offer one of the most efficient ways to transport coal affordably.
Led by a Legacy-equipped Canadian National SD70M-2, the Lionel unit coal train is back again, better than ever. This impressive modern diesel set includes six bathtub gondolas that feature the revolutionary rotating coupler, as well as an upgraded level of detail and an End-of-Train device on the last car. When used in conjunction with the new Command Control Rotary Dumper, the bathtub gondolas function just like the actual prototype. Without uncoupling from the train set, each coal car can be rotated in the Rotary accessory to empty its coal load.
